Uncollected Children
Procedure
Rationale
Nursery
staff need to be aware of their responsibilities regarding children who have
not been collected from nursery.
Procedure
1.
Member of staff (normally
child’s Key Worker) escorts the child to the Nursery Manager or Senior Nursery
Nurse in the absence of the Nursery Manager.
2.
Nursery Manager or
Senior Nursery Nurse rings parent and other adults named as contacts to report
what is happening.
3.
If contact is made,
the Nursery Manager or Senior Nursery Nurse takes the child back to their group
and informs the child’s key worker (if still on duty) and other staff about who
will be collecting the child.
4.
When parent arrives
the Nursery Manager or Senior Nursery Nurse emphasises the need for contact to
be made with the nursery, emotional impact on the child, and inconvenience
caused to staff.
5.
Extra fees are charged
at agreed rate for that session.
6.
If contact is not made
with parents or other adults named as contact, the Nursery Manager or Senior
Nurse will contact the Children’s Services duty team for advice on what to do.
7.
If a child is not
collected by nursery closure (6pm) and no contact has been made with parents or
other adults Children’s Services out of hours service needs to be contacted for
advice.
8.
An incident report
should be completed in all cases.
